Impact of Organizational Culture on Organizational Commitment: A Comparative Study of Public and Private Organizations
- Research Journal of Recent Scieces (ISI Indexed)
- May 2, 2013
Authors: Ch. Akhtar, Zainab Naseer, Maqsood Haider, Sana RafiqOrganizational culture and organizational commitment are the most extensively researched about concepts in management studies, yet the two concepts still remain elusive as ever. Modern day organizations find themselves in doldrums of raising the commitment levels of members by adopting values and norms that are reflected in their cultures suiting to the environment in which they operate. However, the problem of commitment still persists and proves to be a daunting task for
the management to overcome. The present study is an attempt to investigate the effect of culture on the commitment levels of the employees by taking into account the demographic variables. A survey of 371 respondents was carried out in the banking sector and the results indicate that one of the cultural types that is clan culture is most preferred by the employees. The result also shows that clan culture has the most significant relationship with all the three commitment dimensions as compared to other types of culture. Similarly, using the demographic variable of gender, it was found that females were more inclined towards affective commitment within their organization as compared to their male counterparts. There was no difference for the continuance commitment, whereas males were highly inclined towards normative commitment as compared to females. -

Impact of Long Working Hours on Family Wellbeing of Corporate Family
- World Applied Sciences Journal (ISI Indexed)
- April 2012
Authors: Ch. Akhtar, Ayesha kashif, Ahmed Arif, Mohd. Afzal KhanThe present study is conducted to find out the effects of extended working hours on family wellbeing of dual earners. Pakistan being a developing country where traditionally males are the bread earners and females are considered to be the home makers, the trend is changing. Females are now considered equal partners in sustaining family livelihood. This change has brought in numerous problems especially of family wellbeing. The research was conducted in the banking sector and sample consisted of both partners working in the banking industry. Sample was selected through non-probability purposive sampling. The results of the study show that two of the dimensions of extended working hours namely work life balance and work stressors have significant impact on the wellbeing of the family where as the third dimension inflexible work schedule does not have significant impact. The results of the study are consistent with the past researches and show that Pakistani dual earners are no more different than their counterparts elsewhere in the world and face similar problems that are being faced by them.

organizational setting to get a better performance rating. The impact of these impression management tactics has been analyzed in the current study. Researchers developed a hypothetical model on the basis of literature review. Banking and telecom sectors of Pakistan were chosen for this study. The data was gathered from 153 dyads of supervisor and subordinates. The frequency of different impression management techniques was measured with the help of an instrument and afterwards these employees were rated by their respective supervisors.
